♻️ Battery Recycling at AYS Motors – Responsibility for the Environment

Motorcycle and vehicle batteries are highly developed powerhouses. They contain valuable raw materials such as lead, lithium, nickel, and cobalt, but also environmentally harmful acids and heavy metals. Proper disposal is legally required in Switzerland and ensures that valuable materials remain in circulation instead of polluting the environment.

As an official Swiss dealer, we take our responsibility seriously. Together with INOBAT, we ensure that your old battery is professionally and environmentally soundly recycled.

Why is recycling starter batteries so important?

  • Resource Conservation (Circular Economy): Up to 95% of the components of a classic lead-acid or AGM battery (such as lead and plastics) can be cleaned, melted down, and reused for the production of new batteries.

  • Environmental Protection: Batteries contain corrosive sulfuric acid and toxic heavy metals. If these end up in regular household waste or in nature, it leads to massive and long-term damage to soil and groundwater.

  • Safety: Old or damaged batteries (especially modern lithium-ion trainees) can cause short circuits if stored incorrectly or, in the worst case, catch fire.

How to do it right: The easy way in Switzerland

In Switzerland, there is a legal take-back obligation. This means: Wherever you can buy batteries, you can also return them free of charge – regardless of where they were originally purchased. Disposal is completely free for you, as you have already paid the legal advanced recycling fee (ARF) when purchasing.

Your disposal options:

  1. Directly with us: You can drop off your old motorcycle or vehicle battery directly at our warehouse by appointment. We will immediately forward it to the official INOBAT collection points.

  2. At any point of sale: Every petrol station, hardware store, car parts dealer, or motorcycle workshop in Switzerland that stocks batteries is legally obliged to accept your old battery free of charge.

  3. Municipal collection points: The official recycling centers and eco-centers in your municipality or city also accept starter batteries free of charge.

⚠️ Important safety instructions for transport:

  • Transport leak-proof: Always transport conventional lead-acid batteries upright so that no aggressive battery acid can escape.

  • Prevent short circuits: It is best to tape the battery terminals (positive and negative poles) with a piece of insulating tape before transport. This prevents sparks or short circuits from occurring during storage or transport due to accidental contact with metal.

  • No household waste: Under no circumstances throw batteries or accumulators into normal household waste or the metal recycling bin.

About INOBAT

The INOBAT is the cooperative organization in Switzerland that, on behalf of the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN), regulates the collection of the advanced recycling fee (ARF) and organizes and monitors nationwide battery recycling in the country. Thanks to this system, Switzerland has one of the highest battery recycling rates worldwide.
